STEMs aren’t just for leaves anymore

The earlier children and teenagers come into contact with natural sciences and technology, the greater their interest will become. TSB Technologiestiftung funds projects along the chain of education: from Kindergarten up through the university level. For a successful development of Berlin’s 5 cluster areas of development, we need to invest in young people.

In Germany there are too few young people taking the path of studying one of the STEM subjects (STEM=Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). The result is that the German economy lacks a substantial number of workers with training in the fields of math and science.

Therefore a major priority of TSB Technologiestiftung is the development of enthusiasm in the fields of science and math. TSB carries out its own projects in these fields and promotes important activities such as student laboratories and teacher training. TSB also engages in the discussion of STEM education through its various publications.

We are shaping the future

Detecting new research trends and formulating strategies for successful development, promoting science and technological education and providing information on scientific and technological innovations: these are the tasks of TSB Technologiestiftung.

The aim of this work is the development of the region of Berlin-Brandenburg into a major center for science and technology.

The projects of TSB Technologiestiftung Berlin are carried out in three operating divisions:

Data, Facts, Strategies

TSB Technologiestiftung has developed the innovation strategy for Berlin and is continuously updating the technology portfolio of the city.

TSB identifies technological capacities and innovation potentials of the region and provides facts and data for them. TSB also analyzes and evaluates new technologies in terms of their importance for the region. Through brainstorming and policy recommendations, TSB helps to develop the technological skills needed and support the practical application of research findings in the region.

TSB publishes the results of their work and discusses them with professionals and the interested general public.

Information and Discussion

Research and development have huge significance for the region. The TSB Technologiestiftung provides information about projects, networks and current trends at panel discussions and exhibitions, in the internet and using a variety of other formats.

TSB Technologiestiftung offers several events in the fields of technology for experts and the general public:

  • Research policy dialogues for the discussion of new scopes of activity for the region.
  • The radio show “Treffpunkt WissensWerte”
  • The internet portal www.berliner-wissenwerte.de with offers and events of regional science facilities for the interested public.
  • Research forums for scientists from here and from abroad.

TSB Technologiestiftung funds the “Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften” whereat once a year universities and research institutions open their doors to the general public.

Furthermore, TSB supports prizes like the “Innovationspreis Berlin Brandenburg”. TSB also regularly informs international agents about the technological prowess of the region of Berlin-Brandenburg and works together with embassies to support building networks and cross-border projects.
